Our Story

On 16 February 2001, eight committed and highly motivated volunteering Upper Bavarians founded the Aplastic Anaemia Association from the emotion of their own environment. The sad occasion was the death of a friend – Judith Hermann’s – at the end of 2000 to whom this association is dedicated.

She fought against Aplastic Anaemia for many years, never losing courage and giving up hope. Unfortunately, the treatment options available to her at the time did not lead to success, and a BMT could not be performed either. The only chance she had was to wait and hope for new therapies and new research results. Unfortunately the time for this was too short. Just 30 years old, she passed away in December 2000 after 15 years of fighting aplastic anaemia. We very much miss her, her joy of life and her cheerfulness.

In order that Judith’s fight – new, better methods to treat Aplastic Anaemia – does not stop with her death, the Aplastische Anämi e.V. was founded.
