5th seminar for patients and relatives in Ulm

On May 11th, after two years, the 5th Patients and Family Members’ Day for Aplastic Anemia and PNH took place in Ulm in the premises of the Institute for Transfusion Medicine and Immunogenetics with many interesting lectures instead of. Prof. Dr. med. H. Schrezenmeier welcomed around 115 visitors to the institute’s spacious canteen. After a general update from Dr. B. Höchsmann presented Ms. U. Göbel from the self-help group Aplastic Anemia & PNH eV and Ms. P. Burmester from the Stiftung Lichterzellen. Thankfully, the foundation took care of the catering for the event, which was well received by the participants. The lectures were divided into parallel events and thus enabled a wide range of information:

  • Findings from the international PNH register
  • Newly developed therapy options
  • Quality of life improvement
  • Coping with everyday life.

Further speakers were Dr. med. F. Beier from Aachen, Dr. med. S. Body, Dr. med. C. Schmidt and Prof. Dr. med. D. Bunjes from Ulm, K. Weisshaar from Basel as well as R. Fläming and P. Burmester represented by the Stiftung Lichterzellen. The Aplastische Anemia & PNH eV contributed with two lectures: “Clinical studies from the patient’s point of view” (R. Göbel) and “Where can I find help with social law issues” (R. Göbel and M. Schwendler). The latter lecture can be downloaded here. The event ended with the request concert, in which the audience’s questions were answered by the speakers. We found that this event went well in the new premises and we thank the organizers for their great commitment. We are looking forward to a repeat next spring!
